Discover the (no-)go's on electric heating!

Electric but economical heating

The Dutch government wants to switch to energy supplies that are affordable for all households. Heating without the use of gas may still sound unthinkable, but everyone can contribute to this, including you! In fact, in a lot of cases, electric heating is the perfect alternative to traditional heating. For offices, it may be easier to make the complete switch from gas to electricity. So do you have an office job? Suggest it or throw the topic up at lunch: never shot is always wrong. But households also have electricity in their homes. This makes it possible to heat electrically.

Different electric heaters

Throw the gas out the door and bring electricity into your home. After all, electric heating is much better for the environment as well as for your wallet. How they used to be used as auxiliary heating, they now play the main role in every household. There are a lot of types of electric heating. You have the fan heater, ceramic heater, convector heater, electric radiator, radiant heater and the infrared heater.

We would like to point out that a lot of old electric heaters do use a lot of energy. So read this blog carefully and find out which heater is perfect for your energy needs.

The fan heater

A fan heater heats up a room quickly. This is because it contains a fan: this spreads the warm air throughout the room. They also have a cold-air setting, which is nice for the summer months. This way you have the nicest temperature in your home during all seasons. Nevertheless, we recommend this heater as a supplementary heating system in the shed or workplace, for example. The heaters move the necessary dust and make quite some noise.

The ceramic stove

Ceramic stoves also have a fan to blow warm air into the room. These stoves use the child- and home-friendly PTC element. This is a type of material that changes resistance as the temperature rises. When the heater gets too hot, the element keeps it from overheating. The PTC element allows the current to reduce automatically, making them safe stoves. So they don't need to be placed in uncomfortable places: your little one is safe around this heater. For quick supplemental heating, this device is definitely suitable. Also, this electric heater is more economical than the fan heater.

Convector heater

With the convector heater, you have to be a little more patient. This is because this heater heats up slowly. With convection heat, warm air goes up from the heater. The warm air then pushes the cool air down, creating air circulation. The cool air which is now at the bottom is heated again by the stove. This heater is definitely suitable for sleeping, working and living rooms. Also, this electric heater provides long-lasting heat. The heat rises slowly into the air and is well distributed. Thus, you need to think about the temperature once a day and you can work at home or perform your daily activities at ease. This makes convection heaters perfectly similar to your central heating boiler at home as well as making it perhaps the most economical electric heater.

Electric radiator

Electric radiators, like convector heaters, use convection heat. These heaters are great for the bedroom, living room and for office spaces. You can use an electric radiator as wall heating and mobile heating: a versatile way of heating. The electric mobile heater features oil. Oil-filled radiators are very energy-efficient and efficient. You only need to plug the radiator into the wall socket. However, these radiators can be on the pricey side and only serve as supplemental heating. So completely economical this is not.

Elektrische verwarming

Jet heater

Do you have a less well-insulated room? Then radiant heaters are for you. Jet heaters give off heat instantly because they have a short medium-wave infrared heater. This means that the heat distribution is not quite even and does not penetrate as well. Do you suffer a lot from allergies? Then this heater might be for you. The advantages of these heaters are that they do not in fact cause dust displacement, nor do they create dry air. So there is less dispersion of (chemical) substances, so no allergies are generated. Also, because of this heater you will not get dry skin or, even more annoying, dry eyes.

Infrared heater

Infrared heaters use long-wave heating and have a fast heat-up time. Unlike a radiant heater that heats an object directly, without evenly distributing and lingering. These electric heaters are therefore suitable for any living space in a house with good insulation. Think of the kitchen, bathroom, office space, living room and bedroom. These heaters provide the desired temperature perfectly and can therefore completely replace natural gas heating: exactly what we were looking for!

The most economical electric heater

All these options, but which one should you go for if you really want to be economical? One provides quick heating, another is only suitable in small rooms, another makes all the dust blow through the room, and another makes for the perfect central heating system. But which one is the most economical?

Infrared heating is the most economical electric heater. This heater heats people and objects directly: so no unnecessary heat is lost. You always consume in an economical way with this heater. And thus we can say that infrared heating is the most energy-efficient electric heater.

Infrared floor heating

Nowadays, the economical infrared heating is also available as floor heating. Underfloor heating distributes heat evenly over an entire room. This heat rises from the ground, so you often don't need to use other heaters. Underfloor heating also provides extra comfort: you never suffer from cold feet or temperature changes. Infrared floor heating is available for many types of surfaces. It is possible under laminate, a wood floor and parquet. So without excuse, this economical heating can be installed with ease in almost any home!

Choose a heat pump for your home

And if you thought we were already there: definitely not. We also have the heat pump. This is just a different type of heating than plug-in electric heating. Yet the heat pump also ensures that your home gets the perfect temperature. And it does so without or with less natural gas, creating a sustainable home. There are different types of heat pumps: which one suits your home depends on how well insulated your home is. What is certain is that with the pumps you use much less energy and lose much less money!

All-electric heat pump

Go for no gas at all with the all-electric heat pump. With this type of heater, your central heating boiler can go out the door. The pump provides the best temperature in the house, as well as hot water in the kitchen and bathroom. Note, however, that this heat pump is only suitable for well-insulated houses. In a moderately insulated house, the heat from an all-electric heat pump can quickly leave the house. Thus, your heat pump is useless and a waste of your money.

Hybrid heat pump

With a hybrid heat pump, however, you do need your boiler. Together with your central heating boiler, this pump uses electricity instead of gas. Thus, you are already a lot more energy efficient than before. It takes care of heating a large part in the house and the boiler jumps in as an aid, when it or quickly needs to be warm inside. However, the central heating boiler here does provide hot water in the bathroom and kitchen. Do you have a moderately insulated house? Then the hybrid heat pump is the perfect choice for making your home more sustainable.

Go for economical and electric heating

So for any property, home or office, there is definitely the option to heat more economically. For example, there are numerous heaters available. So there's sure to be a match for you.
