Enjoy the heat - efficiently
Electric stoves have become wildly popular as supplemental heating in recent years. With an electric stove, you save on gas, which is beneficial for your wallet and the environment. Unfortunately, not all electric stoves have the capacity to heat an entire house, which is why they are often used as supplemental heating to heat certain areas of the home. After all, when you are working in your home office space, your living room does not need to be heated. So you can leave the heating off and turn on your heater. But how economical are electric heaters really? We'll tell you in this blog!
There are a lot of types of electric heaters, all with different functions. For example, you have heaters with fans, radiators or radiation. Many are similar, yet there is always a difference to be found. This may make choosing the right electric heater difficult. You can also ask yourself the question of whether you want an electric heater as a supplementary heater or as a replacement heater: there are also many differences to be discovered here.
The fan and ceramic stove both have a fan. These stoves heat up a room quickly: this is because the fan spreads the warm air throughout the room. The fan heater includes a cold air setting, which is nice for the summer months. This way you will have the perfect temperature in your home during all seasons. The ceramic heater use the child- and home-friendly PTC element. This is a type of material that changes resistance as the temperature rises. When the stove gets too hot, the element keeps it from overheating. The PTC element allows the current to reduce automatically, making them safe stoves. Thus, they do not need to be placed in uncomfortable places: thus, your little one is completely safe around this heater.
Nevertheless, we recommend taking these heaters as auxiliary heaters in the barn or workplace, for example. This is because the heaters move the necessary dust and make quite a bit of noise. The ceramic heater is the more economical of the two. A ceramic element gets less hot than other elements, but can heat a room just as much.
With the convector heater and electric radiator, you have to be a little more patient. This is because these heaters use convection heat and therefore warm up slowly. With convection heat, warm air rises from the heater. The warm air then pushes the cool air down, creating air circulation. The cool air which is now at the bottom is heated again by the heater.
These heaters are certainly suitable for the bedroom, workroom and living room. Also, these stoves provide long-lasting heat. The heat rises slowly into the air and is well distributed. Thus, you need to think about the temperature once a day and you can work at home or perform your daily activities at ease. This makes convection heaters perfectly similar to your central heating boiler at home ánd makes it perhaps the most economical electric heater for you.
You can use an electric radiator as a wall heater and a mobile heater: which is a versatile way of heating. The electric mobile heater features oil. Oil-filled radiators are very energy-efficient and efficient. You only need to plug the radiator into the wall socket. However, these radiators can be on the pricey side and only serve as supplemental heating. So completely economical this is not.
Do you have a less well-insulated room? Then radiant heaters are for you. Jet heaters give off heat directly, because they have a short medium-wave infrared heater. This means that the heat distribution is not quite even and does not penetrate as well. Do you suffer a lot from allergies? Then this heater might be for you. The advantages of these heaters are that they do not in fact cause dust displacement, nor do they create dry air. So there is less dispersion of (chemical) substances, so no allergies are generated. Also, because of this heater you will not get dry skin or, even more annoying, dry eyes.
Infrared heaters use long-wave heating and have a fast heat-up time. Unlike a radiant heater that heats an object directly, without evenly distributing and lingering. These electric heaters are therefore suitable for any living space in a house with good insulation. Think of the kitchen, bathroom, office space, living room and bedroom. These heaters provide the desired temperature perfectly and can therefore completely replace natural gas heating: exactly what we were looking for!
The infrared heater is the most economical electric heater available. This heater heats people and objects directly, making it perfect for all types of rooms. The heater handles its heat effectively and operates at a lower wattage than other heaters: the less wattage, the less energy lost. So you always consume in an economical way with this stove. And with that, we can say that infrared heating is the most energy-efficient electric heater.
Nowadays, the economical infrared heating is also available as underfloor heating. Underfloor heating ensures that heat is distributed evenly over an entire room. This heat rises from the ground, so you often don't need to use other heaters. Underfloor heating also provides extra comfort: you never suffer from cold feet or temperature changes. Infrared floor heating is available for many types of surfaces. It is possible under laminate, a wood floor and parquet. So without excuse, this economical heater can be installed with ease in almost any home!
Electric stoves have become increasingly fuel-efficient in recent years. Economical stoves can be identified by low wattages, also known as watts. Therefore, when buying an electric stove, always check the wattage. To paint a picture, a 600-watt stove consumes as much as an electrical outlet that is constantly on. You should also always consider the size of a room. For example, 600watt is not enough to heat a 50m2 room.
In 2022, the price for 1 kWh (1000 watts), including all taxes, was €0.40. Now you just need to do the calculation. A 500-watt heater will cost you €0.20 per hour while a 2000-watt heater will cost you €0.80 per hour.
So for any property, home or office, there is certainly the option to heat more economically. For example, there are countless heaters available. So there is sure to be a match for you. Making the switch to heating without gas can sound a bit big. Choose to start with additional heating: that way you can go one step further each time.
